Given how work comes in and needs to be processed for you, it sounds like having Monday-Friday files in addition to numbered day files and month files is an excellent idea. You might even find that day files and week files (i.e., First Week of the Month, Second Week of the Month, etc.) work *better* than 1-31 files. What's most important is that the system is super-clear to you, and that it's neither too simple nor too complex.

If you give it a try, please post back and let us know how it goes!

-EmilyEmilyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09246087955981774501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532680.post-79126931301413933412012-12-20T11:15:38.325-08:002012-12-20T11:15:38.325-08:00I am creating a tickler after hearing a co-worker ...I am creating a tickler after hearing a co-worker talk about hers. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.Emilyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09246087955981774501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532680.post-3801969498202407112012-02-24T06:58:10.482-08:002012-02-24T06:58:10.482-08:00I really enjoyed your blog post on this topic, Emi...I really enjoyed your blog post on this topic, Emily. These boxes, or shoeboxes, as I like to call them, come in all sorts of forms. They are actual boxes of letters, photos, items, computer stored items, as well as online boxes such as facebook (very dangerous becuase you can actually reconnect and rehash old relationships with that actual person), etc. As one who has kept a shoebox or two containing items from the past, I can say that, as it pertains to relationships, it is a very liberating feeling when you do throw those boxes away. You feel free from that past and are able to move on with a healthy, unencumbered mind and heart. At the least, I believe that it is an acknowlegement to yourself that you are truly emotionally and mentally ready to experience a new chapter in your life... apart from the old.
I would also add that it is so important to clear your life of these shoeboxes before inviting someone new into your close personal life. They deserve to be able to move about and grow freely within this relationship without bumping into undue past clutter. It is EXTREMELY painful to be in a serious relationship and be exposed to someone's past multiple relationships during the course of cleaning, moving, etc. At a certain point in life, nobody is anyone else's first love, etc... but they do deserve to feel as though they are the only one NOW.
I think that shoeboxes are best used for storing shoes... let the rest of that stuff go. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532680.post-91515727217796785152011-11-15T07:08:34.971-08:002011-11-15T07:08:34.971-08:00So true--done is almost always better than perfect...So true--done is almost always better than perfect. I don't recall the exact reference, but I've heard/read that in business decisions it's often better to decide either way, even if one path is less optimal, because you'll at least start the enterprise moving forward and begin to get real feedback.

I don't know if it's totally true in business but it seems to hold true in my life--it's better to finish a project adequately than aim for perfection and not finish at all. And better to decide and start moving, even if the decision isn't perfect, than to try to make it perfectly and let the moment slip away.Busy Signalshttp://www.busysignals.net/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532680.post-91638190516380060512011-07-14T08:29:47.552-07:002011-07-14T08:29:47.552-07:00Welcome, Bread Winner! Glad you came upon my blog.

If you're in the habit of weeding out stuff you don't want or need throughout the year, it makes sense to scale back the 50 Things Challenge a bit and maybe focus on one particularly frustrating area in your home or office, one type of thing, and so on.

Keep up the great work of helping pass along gently used items to people who need and will use them. I live a rather minimalist lifestyle and so am not certain that I can find 50 things...but I have a new client and I believe I will bring this topic up to her today and challenge her. I'm kind of the queen of recycling in that I make an effort to help others relocate their gently used items to the best possible recipients (old cell phones/parts to the Battered Women's Center, etc.). It might be $19, but I know there's a similar skirt already in my closet, so I don't get this one. Or it might be $28 but really fill a gap in my wardrobe. Either way, starting with that totally plucked-from-the-air "value" gives me a starting point for negotiating with myself.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532680.post-90966991202409961622010-06-22T18:27:04.591-07:002010-06-22T18:27:04.591-07:00Thanks, Rob!
